5 LAKH SAPLINGS TO BE PLANTED IN JALANDHAR FOR ENHANCING GREEN COVER - DC

DC VISITS SEECHEWAL NURSERY

To ensure the planting of 550 saplings to each village as part of the year-long celebrations of the 550th Parkash Purab of Sri Guru Nanak Dev Ji, the deputy commissioner Mr Varinder Kumar Sharma on Friday visited a nursery developed under Mahatma Gandhi National Rural Employment Guarantee Act (MGNREGA) in Seechewal village of the district.

Mr. Sharma along with renowned environmentalist and Padma Shree Awardee Sant Baba Balbir Singh Seechewal took the stock of work in a nursery and said that as per the announcement of Punjab Chief Minister Capt Amarinder Singh to plant 550 saplings in each village, five lakh saplings would be planted in  900 villages of the district which is set to  enhance the green cover in Jalandhar. 

Mr. Sharma added this drive would be a humble and befitting tribute to Sri Guru Nanak Dev Ji. 

He told that It is need of the hour to plant more trees to make Punjab clean, green and pollution to check pollution in the state.

He asked the people to come forward for making this plantation drive a grand success as this work could not be accomplished without their active support and participation. 

Mr. Sharma also sought fulsome support of panchayats, schools besides social, religious and nongovernment organizations to contribute towards this noble initiative.
