Due to blockage of water of Beas river there is very much increase in polluted water quantity at Harike pattan in Sutlej river. It is happening continuously for many days. Much of contaminated water from pattan is going to Rajasthan through canals. To assess the situation that has arisen, environment lover Sant Balbir Singh Seechewal the member of the supervising committee constituted under NGT specially reached Harike Pattan. On this occasion Punjab pollution Control Board also took the samples of contaminated water. On increase of the quantity of contaminated waters at Harike pattan Sant Seechewal expressed his grief and said that today the whole world is celebrating cancer day and there the people of Malwa and Rajasthan are already becoming prey to cancer. Due to coming of contaminated water from Sutlej at Harike pattan foam (jhag)on large scale was becoming in the water. Bad smell was also coming from the water.
He said that NGT has made the Supervising committee only for this reason to stop pollution in the rivers of Punjab. On handing over report to NGT the Punjab Government was fined rupees fifty crores. He said that fine is not the solution the problem is linked with the lives of people. The people living around Kala Sangian drain, Sutlej river and Buddah Nullah are dying with cancer. Mixing of sheera of Chadha Sugar Mill in the Beas river there has already been a loss of aquatic species at large scale. Punjab pollution control board SDO Jagroop Singh took the samples of water from Harike Pattan.
